Days after a wanted man, who escaped from lawful custody, was caught hiding in a barrel in an Agricola home, two teens along with a mother of three, appeared before a City Magistrate charged with harbouring a fugitive.

17-year-old, Shyon Freeman, 24-year-old, Carletta Gir  and 18-year-old, Esan Gibson, all made their first court appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann Mcleannan this morning.

The charge stated that between July 19th and July 23rd at Brutus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, the three knowingly harboured Marlon Jeffrey, who was wanted by the Police in connection with several crimes and escaping lawful custody.

Immediately after the charge was read, Shyon Freeman and Corletta Gir entered a plea of not guilty, while the 18-year-old man,  Esan Gibson pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the Court that on 11th July, the wanted man, Marlon Jeffrey was engaged in shout-out with Police.

He was injured during the shoot out and a gun along with ammunition were found in his possession.

The injured man was taken to the Hospital under Police Guard, but made an escape days later.

The Prosecutor further stated that it was on the 23rd July, that the Police received information about the whereabouts of the wanted man.

The Police visited the Agricola home and conducted a search and found the wanted man hiding out in a barrel with a plastic bag over his head.

After being arrested, the accused Esan Gibson, admitted that he assisted in hiding the wanted man in the house.

The Police Prosecutor made clear objections to bail for the other two accused who entered not guilty pleas after the young man pleaded guilty.

The young man, Esan Gibson was sentenced to three years behind bars following his guilty plea. He will also have to pay an $80,000 fine.

Bail was refused to the other two defendants and they will make their next appearance in Court in August.
