Member of the Guyana Police Force today received a stern warning from the Acting Police Commissioner against flouting the regulations for tint on their personal vehicles.

He said it will not be encouraged and the “blatant flouting” must stop.

The Police Force has been receiving complaints from motorists who are forced to strip their vehicles of dark tints while members of the Force, including junior members, are allowed to traverse in their heavily tinted cars.

Some motorists have started to tint the front windscreen of their vehicles, which makes it difficult for them to drive at nights.

In some Police Divisions, the Force has been stripping the cars of many of its ranks, but it has been noticed that days later, the same cars would be heavily tinted again.

The regulations for tint on vehicles provide for the Ministry of Public Security to issue a vehicle tint license for a certain level of manufactured tint and in special cases allow for the license to be issued.

Just recently, the Public Security Minister said there is a need for the regulation to be looked at again since persons have been seeking permission to add tint to their vehicle windows for health reasons.

He said in many of those cases, the licenses have been issued, however, he believes there is need for a clearer policy that will get the support of more citizens.
