Two charged and granted bail in 143 pound cocaine in gas cylinder bust

Two men were today slapped with drug trafficking charges in relation to the 143 pounds of cocaine found in a cooking gas cylinder.

The two accused, 33-year-old, Damion Williams of Better Hope and 30-year-old,Vaughn Anderson of Bhoodhoo Housing Scheme,  both stood before Magistrate Leron Daly and denied the allegation of trafficking of Narcotics, as the charge was read to them.

The court heard that two on the 24th December, at Bhoodhoo Housing Scheme, both had in their possession 65.027 Kilograms of Cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Attorney George Thomas, who is representing the interests of Williams, stated that his client, who is a boat Captain, was hired to carry the cylinder to a man called ‘Spanish Man’.

The Attorney representing the other accused, told the court that his client was only a passenger at the time of the bust.

In response to the statement from the two Attorneys, Police Prosecutor, Arvin Moore objected to bail, since he felt that there were no special reasons given for them to be granted bail.

However, Magistrate Daly felt different, and granted bail in the sum $300,000  to each of the accused, with the condition that they must report to the Leonora Police Station, every Friday.

On Christmas eve day, Police Narcotics Branch ranks, acted on intelligence gathering and visited a house at Bhoodhoo Housing Scheme.

After coming up empty handed when they searched the house, the ranks then focused their attention on the heavy gas bottle that was found in a car parked at the house.

A search of the gas cylinder, revealed the cocaine.

The two men will make their next court appearance in January.
