Two charged for America Street robbery as police hunt other suspects

Two persons were on Monday charged in connection with the daring America Street robbery which occurred last Tuesday and resulted in several money changers who ply their trade in the area losing a hefty sum of their foreign currency.

Forty – year – old Troy Abrams of West Coast Demerara and 30 – year – old Anthony Primo of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to the robbery charges.

Both men pleaded not guilty but were remanded to prison until December 11.

The Court heard that the duo were involved in the robbery which resulted in money changer, Vyburn Fraser losing GYD$82,000, US$3,000, TT$200,000 and SRD$2000.

No other details in relation to the matter were revealed in Court.

According to reports, at least six gun toting bandits riding CG motorcycles carried out the robbery in the busy America Street area.

No one was injured during the robbery despite the armed men discharging several shots, which forced persons to scamper for cover.

The attack seemed well-coordinated as the motorcycle riding bandits were able to maneuver their escape through the bustling crowd and downtown traffic. Police investigating the incident reportedly made the arrests last week.
