Two persons died and at three others were injured on Friday night as a result of an accident on the Unity Public Road on the East Coast Demerara.

The latest fatal accident came just 3 days after the Guyana Police Force announced a major campaign to tackle the lawlessness on the country’s roadways.

The two persons who died have been identified as Kelvin Cort and Jennifer Grant.  Three others were injured.

A police report on the incident stated that C0rt was the driver of the motor car PFF 6778, when a motor pick-up which was driving in the opposite direction as Cort headed east, swerved into his lane and slammed into the motor car.

Guyana has recorded over 95 deaths on the country’s roadways for the year so far. Earlier in the week, the Police Force launched traffic “Operation Safeway”.

The move has seen more police officers dispatched to various parts of the country to monitor the roadways more and encourage safer driving.  Most fatal accidents have been recorded in the Region 4 area.
