A boat accident in the Essequibo River at Quarawak Falls has claimed the lives of two men. The body of one man has been recovered so far.

The body of Rupununi businessman 53-year-old Darmindra Dean was discovered during searches in the area this afternoon, while the body of 68-year-old Roach Leo remains missing.

Details of the accident are unknown but it is suspected that the two men were heading to a mining area when they encountered some difficulties while traversing the rough waters.

Search teams have been dispatched to the area along with additional investigators.
