Two die in separate East Bank Demerara fires

Fire Service investigators are probing two fires that occurred overnight in two separate village on the East Bank of Demerara.

A seven-month old baby died in the fire at Kaneville Grove while a 59-year-old man lost his life in the fire at Diamond.

At least 10 persons were able to escape the fire that ravaged the house at Kaneville. It is unclear how the baby, who has been identified as Romain Seth,  may have been left behind.

The fire quickly swept through the house.  It is suspected that the deadly fire at Kaneville may have been deliberately set.

In the Diamond community, fire fighters were called to the scene of another fire just after 3 o’ clock this morning as the fire ripped through a house in the area.

59-year-old Thakur Singh, who owned the two-story structure, reportedly got trapped in the garage area as he attempted to escape. He was badly burnt.

Investigators believe that a stove which was left unattended may have triggered that blaze.  Investigations into both fires are ongoing.
