Two houses destroyed by fire set by abusive husband during row

Two houses in the Newtown Kitty area were gutted by fire last evening as a domestic dispute between a husband and his wife turned into tragedy.

According to persons in the area, the husband, Osafa Jarvis, arrived home at the couple’s DaSilva Street house and started a row with his wife, accusing her of infidelity.

The woman was physically abused by the man, who then set the house ablaze before running away from the scene.

The abused wife was able to escape from the fiery scene.

The fire quickly went out of control and made its way to a nearby house also, burning both houses, almost to the ground.

The family in the second home had to run from the burning building as the fire service was called and battled the blaze.

At least 10 persons have been reportedly left homeless as a result of the fire. The investigations are ongoing.
