Two killed in mid morning Coverden crash

Two persons were killed in a mid morning accident at Coverden on the East Bank of Demerara when their car collided with a sand truck.

The tragedy occurred just after 10:00am.  There are reports that the driver of the white Toyota Spacio car may have lost control of the vehicle and ended up in the lane with the truck which was heading in the opposite direction. The driver appeared to have been speeding. He survived the accident but is hospitalised with multiple injuries.

The entire front of the car was smashed and although the airbags in the car deployed, the two passengers in the car both died on the spot from several visible injuries to their bodies.

The two passengers who died did not appear to be wearing their seat belts at the time.

This latest road accident comes at a time when the Police Force has been pleading with drivers to be more alert and slow down on the country’s roadways.

Guyana has recorded over 100 road deaths for this year already. The identity of the two dead men are still unknown.
