It appears as though the drug traffickers are making efforts to make some extra cash for the holidays.

On the same day that a woman was busted with cocaine in her suitcase at the Cheddi Jagan Airport, two men were busted at the same airport with the illegal drug.

One of the men busted on Friday by the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit, has been identified as Berkeley Ferdinand.   He is the brother of local singer, Mark Ferdinand, who was arrested and charged in the United States for cocaine trafficking in 2015.  He was released and deported after striking a deal with US Prosecutors.

The brother, Berkeley Ferdinand was held on Friday with cocaine in rum bottles as he was preparing to board a US bound flight. Over three pounds of cocaine was found in the bottles.

And on the same day, another Guyanese man was held by CANU with cocaine in the false sides of his suitcases. He was found with close to four pounds of the illegal drug. He has been identified as Colin Forbes McEwan.

Both men will face a Georgetown Magistrate early in the new week.

The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit has been stepping up its drug fight over the past few years, with a number of drug busts. The Police Narcotics Branch has also been improving its drug fighting efforts.
