Two more COVID-19 deaths; 52 new cases recorded

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Guyana climbed to 109 today as the Ministry of Health reported that a 71-year-old woman from Region Four and a 48-year-old man from Region One were the latest fatalities.

The death toll has been climbing steadily in the past two and a half months. New cases have been climbing even more. 52 new cases have been recorded.

With several persons still in the Coronavirus Intensive Care Unit, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony today said plans are moving apace to have ICU facilities completed at the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Lilliendaal.

He said as it is now, the Lilliendall hospital is housing mild cases of COVID-19 and more serious cases that would require ICU assistance would be transferred to the Georgetown Hospital.

The Minister explained that once the facility is completed at Lilliendaal, it will also cater for ICU patients.

Guyana recorded its first case of coronavirus back in March. Since then, more than 3000 additional cases have been recorded across the country in every region.
