Two years in jail for Venezuelan who fired gunshots in building as part of celebration

A Venezuelan National, who claimed that he fired several gunshots as part of a celebration in an apartment building, will have to celebrate differently behind bars after pleading guilty to a number of gun related charges today.

27-year-old, Jesus Rodriguez told the Court that he came to Guyana to conduct business and upon the successful completion, he celebrated by firing gunshots.

The incident occurred in the Cuyuni area four days ago.

Upon reports of the gunshots, the Police went to the apartment where the man was staying and found a .38 revolver with matching rounds and a 9mm gun.

The Venezuelan national was immediately arrested.

In court today, Rodriguez begged the Court for mercy, while admitting to the crime. He said he knows what he did was wrong but it was just his way of celebration.

The Magistrate was in no celebration mood and sentenced the man to two years in jail.
