US Embassy system outage forces visa delays

The United States Embassy here in Georgetown has announced that it is currently experiencing technical problems with its passport and visa system. According to the Embassy, the issue is worldwide and is not specific to any particular country, citizenship document, or visa category.

The problem has resulted in persons who have completed their visa application interviews facing delays with the issuance of the visa and the return of their passports.

In a message posted on the Embassy’s official Facebook page, it said that “we recognize the inconvenience that this may cause to applicants waiting for visas and passports, but unfortunately when the system goes down, we are unable to print visas, passports and other travel documents”

In offering apologies to applicants who are experiencing delays in obtaining a Passport, Report of Birth Abroad, or Visa at this time, the embassy also asked that they do not return to the U.S. Embassy to collect your travel documents “at this time.”

“We will update our Website and Facebook pages as the technical problems get resolved to advise applicants when they can return to the Embassy to collect their travel documents”, the statement added.
