US Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah Ann Lynch today said the relationship will continue to be strong and there will be support in a number of areas.

According to Ambassador Lynch, “as you know we work in a number of areas, including security assistance, governance assistance and economic development. I have already met with the President about deepening our ties in all of those areas and we are looking at existing programmes and building on those and also exploring new areas in those three major areas”.

During the just concluded elections, the US Government through its State Department applied pressure on the last government as the wait for the final declaration prolonged for five months. Visa sanctions were even instituted against a number of still to be named officials.

The US has extended its best wishes to the new President and Government.

On the issue of the current Coronavirus pandemic, Ambassador Lynch noted that more assistance will be offered to Guyana and the Caribbean. The US has already dispatched assistance to Guyana and a number of other Caribbean countries as the COVID-19 situation remains worrying.
