Two members of the deadly Venezuelan Sindicato Gang, who were caught in Guyana with grenades, have been remanded to prison.
The two Venezuelan men, Daniel Alberto and Luis Alfredo Vasquez Gonzales, stood before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning and did not have much to say as the charge was read to them.
The Police Prosecutor explained that on the 17th January at Mole Hill, Cuyuni River, the two men were found with two live hand grenades in their possession without being the holder of the requisite license.
They were nabbed during a joint operation by Police and Military Ranks in the area.
The men were in a boat in the Cuyuni river with fifteen other persons.
The two had the grenades stashed in their crotch and reportedly admitted to being members of the Sindicato gang. They were immediately arrested and charged.
Their next Court day will be in the month of March.
The Sindicato gang is known for traversing the bordering regions with Guyana. Members of the gang have been blamed for a spike in robbery of small gold miners. Just last week, one member of the gang was shot dead by a security guard as he attempted to storm a mining camp with some other members of the gang.
