Venezuelan “pirates” to be sentenced after pleading guilty to robbing Guyanese fishermen

The three Venezuelans, 23-year-old Jose Beria, 21-year-old Aleyandio Valenzuela and 23-year-old Reniel Valenzuela appeared in Court earlier this week at Diamond, where the charges of armed robber, hijacking and piracy were read to them.

Three Venezuelan men who were nabbed in the Waini River in Region One after allegedly attacking and robbing two Guyanese fishermen of their boat and outboard engine, have been charged and remanded to prison.

The three Venezuelans, 23-year-old Jose Beria, 21-year-old Aleyandio Valenzuela and 23-year-old Reniel Valenzuela appeared in Court earlier this week at Diamond, where the charges of armed robber, hijacking and piracy were read to them.

All three men pleaded guilty to the armed robbery charge. However, they have been remanded to prison until the 22nd May for sentencing.

They are also facing a charge of possession of firearms and ammunition without a license.

The three were nabbed after attacking two Guyanese fishermen in the early hours of the morning on the 7th March in the Waini River. The fishermen said they were awakened by the men who had guns pointed at them.

After robbing the Guyanese fishermen of their boat and outboard engine, the three Venezuelan pirates attempted to flee to there homeland but were cornered by a Police and Coast Guard team that had been dispatched to investigate the pirate attack.
