With the expanding oil industry in Guyana and first oil coming in 2020, the country has been seeing renewed interests from several international airlines and other investors.

The UK based Virgin Atlantic Airline is eyeing the Guyana market and once all goes well, the airline could possibly start its service to Guyana in 2020.

Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson announced on Friday that a top official of the airline has reached out to the Government.

“They were on a Skype call to myself and the Minister of Finance, on them coming here… This was the Director of the airline with oversight for routes. He was going into a meeting and he would like to know what is Guyana’s position, saying he would like to put Guyana on their route for 2020″.

News Source understands that no official application has been filed as yet, but the company is serious about the Guyana market.

US-based carriers Jet Blue and United Airlines have also expressed an interest in the Guyana market even as American airlines is set to expand its service to Guyana from December.

There is currently no direct airline service between Guyana and any European country. Virgin Atlantic has scheduled flights to Barbados and other Caribbean destinations.

With the expanding oil industry in Guyana and first oil coming in 2020, the country has been seeing renewed interests from several international airlines and other investors.

Just last week, the UK based Tullow oil company announced its first oil find in Guyana.

The British Government has also been lending support to the Guyana Government and the local private sector as Guyana gears up to be a major player in the oil sector.
