The young man reportedly travelled to Georgetown earlier today to purchase stocks for his business place. Persons who were in the area at the time recalled hearing gunshots then seeing persons scampering for cover as two young men on a CG motorcycle hurried away from he scene.

The busy Robb and Alexander Streets area was the scene of a midday robbery today which left a young Wakenaam businessman dead.

The dead man has been identified as Mahendra Persaud of Wakenaam in the Essequibo. He was shot just before 12:00 noon while he was about to transact some business in the Alexander Street area at a wholesale store.

Initial investigations suspect that the businessman may have been followed by the bandits to the area and pounced upon as he was about to enter one of the businesses in the area.

News Source understands that after the businessman was shot, a car ran over him and the occupants took him to the hospital.

An investigation has been launched.

Guyana has recorded over 40 murders for this year already.
