Three days after the Police issued a wanted bulletin for his arrest, Georgetown resident, Maverick DeAbreau turned himself in to the Police to face questioning related to the assault of gay rights activist, Joel Simpson.

Simpson was attacked by a group of men three weeks ago as he purchased food in the Bourda market area after a night of partying.

DeAbreau was identified as one of his alleged attackers.

In his complaint, Simpson provided a video recording to the Police of the group of men first attacking he and his friends with beer in the Palm Court nightspot while they were dancing.

He said that hours later, he was cornered and beaten by the same group of men at a Bourda market shop. Vendors rushed to his aid.

The attack on the LGBT activist received widespread condemnation from the Government and a number of local and international agencies.

During the attack, several homophobic slurs were reportedly thrown at Simpson, who has been an LGBT activist for close to two decades.

The suspect who has been arrested is currently before the Courts for his alleged attack on a Trinidadian soca star outside Palm Court.

That assault matter is ongoing.
