West Coast Demerara miner murdered in North West
Police investigators from Georgetown have travelled to the Five Star mining area in the North West District to investigate the murder of 37-year-old Stewartville resident, Devon Moore.
According to a police report, Devon Moore was in his mining camp on Wednesday afternoon when another man entered his camp and shot him at close range with a shotgun.
The assailant escaped without a trace. Moore was taken to the Port Kaituma Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
There are reports that a  number of miners in the area are being questioned about whether Moore had any conflict with anyone and what may have triggered the murder.
No arrests have been made in the case.  Investigations are ongoing. Last year, several murders were recorded in the mining communities and there have been calls for more police monitoring and a greater police presence in many of the gold mining areas.
