Woman busted with cocaine at CJIA in laptop bag

A 26-year-old woman from Mon Repos on the East Coast of Demerara was busted on Sunday at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with just over 5 pounds of cocaine in her laptop bag and her carry on luggage.

The bust was confirmed by the Head of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit, James Singh, who told News Source that the investigations were still ongoing.

The woman was preparing to board a New York bound Fly Jamaica flight when the bust was made. She was immediately arrested and taken in for questioning by CANU agents.

The woman would have been a first time traveler to the United States. She is the holder of a US Visitor’s visa and reportedly told the investigators that the illegal drug was given to her by two other persons.  Those two persons believed to be linked to the bust have since been arrested.
