44-year-old Brian Matterson of Wortmanville was today remanded to prison on an attempted murder charge, which stemmed from his alleged stabbing of his own neighbour.

The man was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

According to the Police Prosecutor, it is alleged that on the 27th September at Princes Street, Worthmanville Matterson stabbed his neighbour Ronald Bettencourt with intent to commit murder.

Matterson had previously been charged with assaulting the same neighbour.

With regard to the attempted murder incident, it was told to the Court that on the day in question, Matterson armed himself with a knife and went over to his neighbour’s yard where he attacked the man, stabbing him repeatedly to the body.

The injured neighbour was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where he remains a patient.

Bail was refused and the presiding Magistrate also ordered that the accused be made to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine his suitability to stand trial.

The case continues on the 16th October.
