Wrongfully dismissed PSM staff to be reinstated following COI

Three staff members of the Public Service Ministry who were dismissed by recently appointed Minister of Public Service, Tabitha Sarabo-Halley, have been ordered reinstated.

The decision is as a result of the recommendations of a Commission of Inquiry conducted by former Chief Whip for the PNC Reform, Lance Carberry.

At his weekly press conference this morning, Director General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joe Harmon, announced that the Commission of Inquiry found that the three staff members were wrongfully and unlawfully dismissed and their reinstatement has been ordered.

They will return to their previous jobs and will continue to enjoy all of the benefits they enjoyed before the unlawful firing.

Mr. Harmon said the Minister has been advised of the need for due process and the rules of the public service with respect to employment, discipline and dismissal of public servants.

Such issues would have to be determined by the Permanent Secretary and the Public Service Commission.

The firing of the three employees took place back in June.

The Government quickly rescinded the letters of dismissal but ordered a Commission of Inquiry as the employees were asked to go on administrative leave.

The dismissals may have been related to issues surrounding the government’s scholarship programme.
