Youth accused of pushing girlfriend from car, freed of manslaughter charge over insufficient evidence

Pandemonium broke out at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning as the unlawful death charge against 21-year-old, Rick Sewcharran was dismissed.

The charge was related to the death of his girlfriend Sasia Adams, who it was alleged, he pushed from his car.

The Chief Magistrate dismissed threw the case out and allowed the young man to walk free after indicating that enough evidence was not provided against him to support the charge.

Family members of the dead young woman broke down in tears and as the youth left the Courthouse, the dead woman’s mother grabbed him and shouted “you killed my daughter”.

The incident took place back in August last year. The young woman was rushed to the hospital with multiple injuries. It was alleged that she was pushed from the car during an argument between the two, but the boyfriend said she opened the door and jumped.

He was charged for manslaughter and granted bail as the case went on. Its unclear whether the DPP will appeal the decision.
