Youth freed of attempted murder charge; Judge encourages him to change his life

The accused, George Dover appeared relieved following the jury’s verdict on Thursday.

During the trial, the Court was told that on the 10th April, 2015 at Eccles, Dover allegedly attempted to commit murder on Kester Yamster, by stabbing him to the chest.

During his testimony, the victim told the Court that Dover had owed him money for a toque and the two got into an argument.

He claimed that he was pushed to the ground by Dover, who laughed at him.  Later the two found themselves involved in another confrontation after a game of football.

In his testimony he claimed that after the game as he made his way home, he saw a shadow and when he looked around he saw Dover coming at him with one of his hand. Just after he felt the pain from the wound and saw blood.  He was rushed to a hospital where he was treated and admitted for several days.

During cross-examination, he was questioned about whether he really recognised the person who inflicted the stab wounds. He claimed that he could and he was sure it was the accused.

Although his mother testified and corroborated much of his story, the jury still found favour with the defendant, who the Judge told to make a change to his life, as he set him free.
