“Zipper” remanded to jail over Campbellville cocaine bust

Former murder accused, 57-year-old, Campbellville businessman Andre Gomes aka “Zipper” was back in Court today, where he was slapped with a cocaine possession charge.

The charge stemmed from the discovery of just over two pounds of cocaine in the man’s Craig Street, Campbellville home.

In Court today, “Zipper” pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was refused bail and remanded to jail until until later this month.

The Court was told that it was on the 30th January that the cocaine was discovered in the man’s home. Investigators believe he had it for the purpose of trafficking.

The cocaine trafficking accused was represented by Attorney-at- Law, Mark Waldron, whose application for bail was denied.

The Attorney claimed that the cocaine was not found in the man’s house but in an alleyway close to his property. But the Attorney representing the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit indicated that an eyewitness reported otherwise. The Magistrate refused bail.

Back in 2015, the same man was charged for the shooting death of a driver outside the Palm Court nightspot, but the charge was eventually dropped as the evidence seemed insufficient.

Last year, a wanted bulletin was issued for him after over 20 pounds of cocaine  was found in a house that he owns in the same Campbellville area.  However, the occupant of the house, who was close friends with Zipper,  pleaded guilty to a cocaine possession charge and has since been sentenced.
