Free CPL Finals Watch Party to be hosted at Durban Park

(DPI) With 11 straight games under its belt, the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) will descend into Trinidad’s Brian Lara Cricket Academy with the full support of Guyanese at home.

This comes as the Government of Guyana has thrown its support behind the hosting of a ‘CPL watch party’ at Durban Park as Guyanese celebrate what’s being described as the largest party in sport.

“Come Saturday, October 12, Guyanese from all walks of life, all shades of complexion, and all political persuasions, will unite in support of the unbeaten Guyana Amazon Warriors,” a release to the press, from the Department of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sport stated.

In the missive, Minister of Social Cohesion, Hon. Dr. George Norton emphasised the administration’s commitment towards encouraging Guyanese to foster stronger ties among each other.“The government has always been assiduous in pushing its ‘Social Cohesion’ agenda. Sports, particularly cricket, usually fuel an environment of unity and pride. We want to capitalise on this CPL season and give our people a safe space to come together and support our Warriors.”

To encourage the patriotic atmosphere at the final match, Minister Norton has pledged to ensure stringent security measures are in effect. Game time is 17:00hrs, and there will be free admission.“Hopefully, in the near future, Guyana will be able to host the CPL Finals, but for now, we want to create an environment where people can physically come together with their fellow Guyanese who will be just as ecstatic and fervent about every wicket and every boundary the Warriors make this Saturday,”Minister Norton stressed.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors will vie for the Hero CPL championships with the winner of Thursday’s match between the Barbados Tridents and Trinbago Knight Riders.

Saturday’s match will be the Warrior’s fifth attempt at capturing the coveted championships in a final.
