Windies struggle in tour match

(Sportsmax) After a decent performance with the bat, West Indies made few inroads with the ball in their tour match.

West Indies showed few signs of improvement as their tour match against a Victoria XI ended early on Sunday.

The under-fire tourists declared overnight at 303-8 in Geelong, but they made few inroads as Victoria ended up at 169-3 in response.

Rain led to a delay on the second day of the tour match before an early end was agreed to.

While some of their batting will leave them optimistic, West Indies still appear set to struggle in the second Test against Australia starting on Saturday.

Spinner Devendra Bishoo took 2-60, while Kemar Roach (1-21) was the Windies’ only other wicket-taker.

Jake Hancock made an unbeaten 80 opening for the Victoria XI.

Kraigg Brathwaite (78), Jermaine Blackwood (69), Marlon Samuels (45) and Denesh Ramdin (unbeaten 38) had all made runs on Saturday.

The hit-out is the Windies’ last before the Boxing Day Test as they look to stay alive in the three-Test series, which they trail 1-0.
