Company awarded oil blocks intend to focus heavily on Guyanese employment

One of the companies recently awarded oil blocks in the Government’s bidding process, intends to focus heavily on employment opportunities for Guyanese, while also focusing heavily on protecting the environment.

The International Group Investment Incorporated (IGI), was one of eight companies that were recently awarded oil blocks offshore Guyana.  The IGI company was awarded two oil blocks.

The company is owned and managed by husband and wife, Dr. Levi Wilson Odoe and Esther Allison Odoe.

Dr. Levi Odoe is a Guyanese citizen by naturalization, while his wife is a Guyanese citizen by birth.   IGI’s parent company is based in the United Kingdom.

According to a statement from the company, it sees itself as a significant force in multiple sectors, with investments in construction, education, agriculture, and oil and gas.

The company said its involvement in the oil sector focuses on delivering reliable energy solutions, while prioritizing sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Embracing Guyana’s Local Content Policy, the IGI company stated that it is committed to building local capacity by creating employment opportunities and facilitating employee training, strongly favoring Guyanese hires.

It was also noted that the company aims to work closely with local businesses and suppliers to improve their service standards, giving preference to Guyanese suppliers whenever possible.

On the environmental front, the company noted that recognizing the importance of minimizing its carbon footprint, it will collaborate with the Environmental Protection Agency to enforce best practices for ecological balance and natural resource conservation.

The carbon footprint refers to the total amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere.

In announcing the oil awards last week, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo said said the Government will meet soon with the companies that have been awarded the blocks to work out the modalities and related contracts.
