The US$20 million Courtyard by Marriott Hotel is now expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
This morning, President Irfaan Ali and Prime Minister Mark Phillips visited the construction site of the multi-million-dollar hotel, and were given a tour of the six-storey building, which is under construction at Timehri near the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
Roy Bassoo, Chief Executive Officer of Cardinal Investments Inc. – the company building the hotel – told the President that the hotel will be commissioned and open for business in March or April, 2025.
He said already Marriott is working with the Cardinal Investments Inc. to ensure it has the requisite operational supplies.

“They are actually on board right now because they don’t wait until you’re finish, they start working with us six months prior. They have already start working with us. We have already ordered all of the operational supplies, thousands of items. Those have been ordered but it wouldn’t be shipped until January,” Bassoo explained.
When completed, the hotel is expected to have more than 140 rooms. It will also have five presidential suites in keeping with an earlier recommendation made by President Ali.
Already, a number of the rooms have been completely furnished with modern amenities, and are prepared for business.
During the tour, the President and the Prime Minister were briefed on the hotel’s water system including its hot water system that is being powered by solar energy.

“It’s a new system that creates heat, to heat the water. So, if you don’t get the sunshine, that’s the backup,” Bassoo explained.
The hotel was initially expected to be completed in 2023. However, the deadline was later revised to March 2024. Bassoo is now optimistic that the hotel will be completed in 2025.
The hotel is being constructed with part financing provided by Republic Bank.
