One day after Victoria, East Coast Demerara resident, Andre Wilson died while recovering from stab wounds, his alleged assailant was taken before the Courts and charged for murder.
47-year-old farmer from Victoria, Sherwyn Elias appeared at the Cove and John Magistrates’ Court this morning where the murder charge was read to him. He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge and was immediately remanded to jail. He will make his next Court appearance on the 3rd November for the continuation of the murder case.
Elias is accused of stabbing Andre Wilson last Thursday after believing that Wilson had blurted out his false name moments after he asked him not to call him by any false name.
Eyewitnesses said Elias attacked the wrong person, since it was not Wilson who had blurted out the false name at the time.
Family members said 47-year-old Andre Wilson was at a shop in the community with some friends, when Elias turned up at the same shop and the group of men called him out by his false name. After a row ensued, the man demanded that he not be called by any false name.

However, as he was leaving the shop, another person arrived and called out the false name. Persons said a furious Elias grabbed a knife from his car and rushed back to the shop where he attacked Wilson, believing that he was the one who had called him by the false name again.
Wilson was taken to the Georgetown Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He was recovering when he suffered a relapse and died suddenly. His family members have been left devastated by the loss, and have demanded justice.
