While slamming “disinformation” that it says is being shared by the People’s National Congress and the Working People’s Alliance about the registration for the $100,000 cash grant initiative, the Government of Guyana has explained that the registration process for the grant is meant to guard against double dipping and fraud.
The PNC and the WPA have claimed that they have received reports of public servants being questioned about their voting pattern as part of the registration process. The Government has denied that such questions are being asked.
In a statement, the Government explained that as part of efforts to ensure a robust and transparent process that upholds the integrity of the cash grant initiative, it has implemented strict measures to
ensure accountability and fairness.
Persons registering for the grant will have to present a valid National Identification Card (ID) or valid
passport. Photocopies of those documents will not be accepted.
It was explained that those two documents are the only acceptable forms of identification being used to confirm that the applicant is a Guyanese citizen aged 18 or older, which makes them eligible to receive the cash grant.
During registration for the grant, a photo of the applicant will be taken to verify their physical presence and to ensure that the person who collects the cash grant is the same individual who registered.
Additionally, a photo of the applicant’s ID or passport will also be taken to validate that the
information on the document matches the person registering.
The Government said each eligible individual is entitled to register and receive the $100,000 cash grant only once, and attempts to defraud the system or manipulate the process will lead to serious legal consequences under the laws of Guyana.
The Government is cautioning citizens to ignore “deceptive” about only providing their ID number.
The statement from the Government said failure to comply with the full registration requirements will result in disqualification from receiving the cash grant.
