Conference Village opens at Kingston Esplanade ahead of Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo

The Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, which is set to open on Tuesday, is being seen as providing a tremendous opportunity for the Agriculture Sector.

This morning, the organisers of the conference launched the inaugural “Conference Village,” will provide farmers and agro-processors with much needed exposure during the event.

At the launching this morning, Agriculture Minister Zulficar Mustapha while delivering remarks at the Kingston Esplanade, said the country has been expanding the production of traditional crops even as it explores the production of new, high value crops, such as corn and soya that are in great demand across the Caribbean.

“Over the years, Guyana’s agro-processing sector has developed tremendously. We have over 4,000 new products now in the agro-processing market. We have a number of guests here, a number of investors that would be here for the next few days and I think it is a tremendous opportunity for agro-processors, our farmers, to display and advertise their products,” the Agriculture Minister said.

He said while agriculture has not been a main feature at the Guyana Energy Conference, steps are now being taken to create synergies and merge the sectors within the country.

“Although Oil and Gas is a sector that is very attractive, the Agriculture Sector over the last four years would have developed rapidly. We have seen the growth in the Agriculture Sector move tremendously, and I think Guyana is well poised to be that leader that we want to be in Agriculture in the Region,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, Kiana Wilburg said even as the country leverages its natural resources for a sustainable future, the Conference Village serves an important reminder that irrespective of the conversation, agriculture remains at the forefront of Guyana’s diversification agenda.

“The second is to ensure that stakeholders within Guyana’s Agriculture Industry have a broader market within which to showcase your capabilities, and the products, in which our beautiful country produces. And thirdly, as you are well aware, the Guyana Energy Conference is a hub for bringing international and regional experts and stakeholders within 26 industries, and we want to showcase the potential of our farmers, our agro-processors, and all those persons within the agricultural landscape. We want to ensure that they are paired with the local partners who have the capabilities, and we want to showcase the investment opportunities that are available in Guyana’s agricultural landscape,” Wilburg said.

The Conference Village runs from February 17 to 21 from 11:00hrs to 17:30hrs.
