Norton leads protest outside President’s Office demanding Justice for Adriana

Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton led a protest outside the Office of the President this morning, demanding justice for 11-year-old Adriana Younge who was found dead three weeks ago in a pool at the Double Day Hotel at Tuschen, one day after she was reported missing.

The child is still to be laid to rest as her family also demands justice and are hoping for a second post-mortem examination. The first PME, conducted by three independent foreign pathologists concluded that the child died by drowning. However, family members maintain that the pool was searched several times after the child went missing, and she was never found there until the following day as protests intensified outside the hotel.

This morning, the Opposition Leader lashed out at the Police and the President over the handling of the investigations into the death of the child. Mr. Norton said all avenues should be exhausted in pursuit of justice.

“The Police from the inception did no show an interest in first finding the child and then proceeded to cover up with Mandall (Assistant Commissioner) saying to people that they have video evidence of the child leaving the hotel, and that says to be that it was a deliberate lie and why would he lie? He lied because his superiors told him to lie the first thing to do is to cover up and the second thing is that the President promised to leave no stone unturned and we put a stone in his way, to call in the FBI, call in a reputable international investigation team”, Norton said.

The Government has secured the services of a Canadian Homicide expert to assist local police with the investigations into the child’s death. The expert is already on the ground meeting with investigators.

The Opposition Leader said the entire investigation was tainted by the Police.

“The police more than a week after had not taken one statement, so which serious Police Force that is looking at a crime scene and would decide that you are not going to interview anybody”, Norton questioned.

He said there must be sustained pressure on the Police and the Government to get it right with the investigations into the child’s death.

Earlier this week, President Ali said he has kept his word in bringing in a foreign expert to join the probe and for the Government to allow foreign pathologists to conduct the post mortem examination.
