Norton criticizes AFC’s move to expel Fernandes, Duncan and Ramsaroop over APNU support as “petty”

APNU Presidential Candidate and PNC Reform Leader, Aubrey Norton today described the move by the Alliance for Change to cancel the membership of three of its members over their decision to appear on the APNU’s list of candidates for the elections as an act of pettiness.

Earlier this week, the AFC announced the cancellation of the membership of Juretha Fernandes, Sherod Duncan and Ricky Ramsaroop.

At a press conference today, Mr. Norton said the expulsion of the three is unjustifiable. He said the three have not joined the People’s National Congress, but have aligned more with the position of the PNC-led APNU for the upcoming elections.

“We in the PNC aren’t into the petty stupidness, but the AFC has gone to at least ten of our members to work with them, most didn’t, but at least one of them on the East Coast did, and we did not proceed to expel them, they are still in our membership but pettiness is part of life,” the PNC leader noted.

He said while there are reports that there may not be a coalition deal between the APNU and AFC ahead of the elections, he still believes that the two sides can reach a deal although admitting that the dynamics have now changed.

“While all of this is happening, we have left the door open for coalition, we see the coming of Juretha, Ricky and Sherod as a case of people who are interested in coalition and is coming to join us to ensure that the coalition reflects the APNU+AFC, that is not to say we have closed the door on coalition on the AFC,” Mr. Norton noted.

Norton said the APNU is moving full speed ahead with its campaign for the next elections, since it has no plan to be involved in a continuous back and forth when the electoral process has a strict timeline for parties to follow.
