President encourages support for those children who may not have excelled at the NGSA

President Irfaan Ali has urged parents and the society at large to not put pressure on those students who might not have excelled at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment exams, declaring that the results may not be the defining moment of a child’s life.

In a Facebook statement, moments after the release of the exam results, the President offered a message to those who might be disappointed.

“This is not an exam to determine who is better than who. This is an exam that is administered at a very early stage of your life, do not use this as the basis on which you determine your future. To all the parents, we all want the best and have the greatest expectations of our children, but our role is to nurture our children and to let them understand that life is a continuous journey of immense accomplishment and disappointment,” the President stated.

The President said all students, those who did well and those who didn’t do as well, must be reassured of the support that they will receive in the next chapter of their school lives.

He said the Government will ensure that children who are more inclined to technical and vocational learning are afforded that opportunity.

“Of course, we must congratulate all our children especially those who did exceptionally well, and those who might have been disappointed or those who might have wanted to be somewhere else, you have so much time ahead of you, and we as government are going to invest to ensure that the quality of education at the best school in your head, is the same quality that is going to be in every school across our country,” the President promised.

With the country recording its best NGSA performance ever, the President said the results show the hard work which is being done by the Government to improve the pass rate. He said each child must know that they have an equal stake in the country’s development.

“I am very proud of the tremendous improvements in every subject area, it tells you that our investment is giving the results we want, it tells you that our capability and capacity is improving but today is not about that, this message is not about that, this message is about our children—all our children who sat this exam, I want all of you to know that all of you are loved and have an important stake in our country’s economy,” the President noted.

The Government has been making big investments in the education sector, and intends to expand that investment.
