Aurora Gold Mines workers strike and demand 10% salary increase

Scores of workers at the Aurora Gold Mining operations in the production department have downed tools and are pressing the management of the company for a 10% increase in their salaries. Many of the workers walked off the job early this morning, slowing down operations at the company.

The workers are complaining that the company is offering a 6% salary increase. They said that 6% increase is completely unacceptable. The workers said the last time they got a salary increase was in 2024.

Many of the workers said they also have concerns about the safety practices at the company. They said the workload has been increasing, but the salaries have not been increasing and the benefits are also lower than expected.

“They have to raise people pay. They should have the highest salaries for gold operations. I was happy to come here and work, but when I came, I had to suck me teeth, them man mean up here”, one worker told News Source.

Another worker said the management at the company needs to better recognise the contribution of the workers, explaining that many workers are forced to work overtime almost daily to earn a proper salary.

News Source understands that the company is likely to meet with the union representing the workers in the new week.
