Chevron excited to be part of Guyana’s “extraordinary” oil and gas story

The Chevron oil company, which is a major player in the global oil industry, has indicated that it is extremely proud to be a part of the Guyana’s extraordinary story in the oil and gas sector.

Chevron acquired HESS – one of three partners in the Stabroek Block Offshore Guyana – in July 2025 at a cost of US$55 billion.

In his address to the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo on Tuesday, Chairman of Chevron, Mike Wirth, said within a short period, Guyana has become one of the world’s leading sources of new oil discoveries, and one of its fastest growing economies.

Heaping praises on Guyana, Wirth said since 2019, Guyana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has increased sixfold paving the way for investments in infrastructure both physical and digital.

“Building on the great contributions of HESS, Chevron brings a long term commitment to Guyana’s success, deep offshore experience, and a history of collaborating with partners and host governments. We have a common goal – create shared prosperity for the nation and its people,” Wirth said.

Praising President Irfaan Ali’s political leadership and strategic vision, the Chairman of Chevron said Guyanese stand to reap the benefits of the developments and investments being made in the oil and gas sector.

“We are aligned with President Ali on his ambition for Guyana because we know that a thriving energy sector can lift a nation, open new doors of opportunities for its people and secure its role as a regional and global leader,” he posited.

Wirth said in a world with geopolitical rivalry and complex energy supply chain, partnership is essential to every consequential energy development, and Chevron is pleased to partner with Guyana.

Noting that Guyana’s leadership has been clear about the need for reliable development, local participation, environmental protection and investment in the country’s long term growth, Wirth said Chevron has a 150 year history on delivering on those values.
