A Guyanese woman who was a student at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania in the United States is facing a second degree murder charge over the stabbing death of her boyfriend.
The woman, Denita Jackson and the victim, Kevaughn Goldson were both track athletes at the prominent University. The victim was Jamaican.
Police were called to the woman’s home early on Sunday morning after receiving an emergency call. At the home, they found the injured man with a number of stab wounds. The woman also bore some injuries.
Both were taken to the hospital, but the 23-year-old man died while undergoing surgery. The accused, Denita Jackson, told investigators that the two shared a relationship that was rocky at times. She said her boyfriend visited her home the evening before the incident occurred and they got into an argument over a missing cologne. The woman shared the home with another young woman.
In her statement to investigators, she said when she left for work late on Saturday night, she left the boyfriend asleep in her bed. However, just after 1 o’clock on Sunday morning, she returned home early after falling ill at work.
She recounted to the investigators that when she got home, the boyfriend was not in her room and she suspected that he had gone over to her roommate’s room. She said her call out to the roommate and the boyfriend went unanswered and she decided to breach the lock on the door of the roommate’s room, burst into the room and finding the two lying fully clothed on the bed.

The woman reportedly jumped to the man and claims that he pushed her off and held her down on the ground, choking her in the process with his hands around her neck.
She claims in her statement that the roommate bolted from the room, and she managed to grab a knife that she noticed under the roommate’s bed and started to stab the man in the back.
He was reportedly stabbed to other parts of the body. Once summoned to the scene, the Police investigators reported that the victim did not provide any information to them and refused to answer questions as he was being taken to the hospital.
The suspect was questioned and taken into custody and eventually remanded after appearing in Court. She has claimed self defence. Some of her close friends have since indicated that the young woman repeatedly complained about allegedly being abused by the boyfriend, but she still stayed on in their relationship.
