The theoretical examination for a Guyana Driver’s License will now be done online through the Government’s Driver’s Licence Portal, which falls under the Guyana Digital School.
The Driver’s Licence Portal was officially launched today by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Guyana Police Force.
The portal provides access to driver theory training and the online examination, allowing members of the public, including senior High School students, to prepare for the exam and write the exam online.
Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, said the initiative was the brainchild of President Irfaan Ali, who instructed that the theoretical driver’s licence exam be facilitated by the Digital School as against the Guyana Police Force, owing to concerns of persons cheating the system.
“There is no other place, that you will be able to write your National Driver’s License Exam than the Guyana Digital School. So, if any other agency tells you that you can write it with them, that’s not legitimate, that is no longer legitimate. It is fully transitioned to the Guyana Digital School,” Minister Parag said.
The initiative is intended to improve access to the driver’s examination, while making it more transparent. Using the portal, persons will be able to sit the exam from the comfort of their homes.

The Traffic Chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mahendra Singh, said the initiative marks another significant milestone in Guyana’s digital transformation, and the modernization of public services in the country.
The Traffic Chief said over the years, the Guyana Police Force has witnessed the evolution in the administration of the Learner Driver’s Programme.
He explained that in past, persons were required to attend four lecture sessions before writing the paper-based exam. The exam was then administered through the Zara Computer Centres countrywide.
The Traffic Chief said today marks another major step in evolution of the programme.
“Today, we are witnessing another major advancement as the process is being integrated into the education system through the Guyana Digital School and the Drivers’ License Portal. This transformation in my humble opinion reflects the Government of Guyana continued commitment to transparency, accountability, efficiency, and equal access to opportunities by all,” the Traffic Chief said.

Asst. Commissioner Singh said the launch of the Driver’s Licence Portal demonstrates just how technology can be used to modernize longstanding systems, improve service delivery and create a more accessible and structured examination process.
He said the initiative also presents an opportunity for young people to learn about the principles of road safety, traffic laws and the responsible road use at an earlier age.
Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond, said the Driver’s Licence Portal is reflective of the Government’s push to modernize public services in the country, while improving transparency and accountability, and rooting out corruption.
“These are not simply technological improvements; they represent a fundamental change in how the State operates. We are moving from systems that depend heavily on manual intervention to systems that are more efficient, transparent and capable of supporting consistent enforcement of the law. And that transformation is particularly important in the security sector because is not only about helping us deliver services faster; it strengthens our ability to enforce the law, detect wrongdoing, improve accountability and protect you our citizens,” the Home Affairs said.
Minister Walrond said already the e-ticketing system has recorded tremendous success. As of August, an estimated $280.4 million was collected in speeding fines as a result of the e-ticketing system, which was introduced in April 2025.
Other digital services introduced in recent times include the Immigration Support Services (ISS) Platform, the Online Guyana Passport Application and Appointment System, and the GovConnect App.
