A 56-year-old labourer was shot dead, execution-style on Thursday night in Sophia by a lone gunman who escaped on a bicycle.

The dead labourer has been identified as Courtney Younge of Section D, Sophia.

A Police statement explained that according to Younge’s friend, Vincent Cozier, the two were sitting in a yard at the construction site for a building, when a man rode up on bicycle with what appeared to be a shotgun in one of his hands, hopped off the bicycle, ran into the yard and shot Younge at close range.

The gunman left the scene on the bicycle. The 56-year-old labourer was pronounced dead on the spot, and his body is now awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The Police statement indicated that the murder suspect is “identifiable”. Searches are ongoing to locate him.

A full investigation has been launched.
