AFC submits new coalition proposal to APNU reducing quota of positions demand to 35%

AFC submits new coalition proposal to APNU reducing quota of positions demand to 35%

With Nomination Day for the upcoming elections fast approaching, the Alliance for Change has submitted a new proposal for a coalition with the APNU.

The proposal, which was submitted on Tuesday evening, is reportedly still under consideration by the APNU although party insiders have said there are still some issues in it that are not acceptable.

Under the new proposal, the AFC has reduced its quota demand of seats and positions to 35% from the initial 65% that was suggested when the talks initially began months ago.

Additionally, the AFC wants to nominate the Prime Ministerial Candidate, have an independent Representative of the List who is acceptable to both the APNU and AFC, and nominate the Speaker for the National Assembly, who would be acceptable to the APNU.

The AFC also wants the appointment of additional Ministers or Junior Ministers under a coalition government to obtain the approval of both parties.

The Alliance For Change is also proposing the formation of a new Ministry or Commission of Planning, that would be inclusive of the transportation sector.

A senior AFC member today told News Source that the APNU is holding firm to a belief that it should be in a position to either choose or agree to the AFC’s Choice for the Prime Ministerial Candidate position.  The official said such a move would be unacceptable, especially since the AFC would be throwing its full support behind the APNU’s Presidential Candidate.

AFC Senior Members are now looking at a way forward, another insider said, as Nomination Day fast approaches.
