British Under Secretary of State and Member of Parliament David Rutley is in Guyana for a series of meetings.
This morning, he met with President Irfaan Ali and a Government team at State House. The British High Commissioner was also part of the meeting.
In a statement, the President’s Office said the discussions focused on the continuation and expansion of the relationship between the UK and Guyana, especially in areas of sustainable and economic development and security.
News Source understands that issues related to the border controversy with Venezuela were also discussed during the meeting.
The British Government has repeatedly made known its support of Guyana in the border controversy and its support for Guyana’s case before the ICJ.
The British have also acknowledged that the border matter was settled since 1899, when Guyana was a British colony.
