CARICOM postpones Heads of Government Meeting as Hurricane Beryl moves through region

As Hurricane Beryl builds strength and moves through the Caribbean, CARICOM leaders were forced to postpone their 47th Regular Heads of Government Meeting, which was schduled to take place in Grenada from the 3rd to the 5th July.

Grenada is one of the CARICOM states in the direct path of the hurricane, and the island has already activated all emergency systems in preparation for the storm.

In a statement on Sunday, the CARICOM Secretariat indicated that the primary focus of the Community is now on citizens’ safety and security.

CARICOM has implored everyone in the path of the Hurricane to take all necessary protective measures. The Community also said it stands ready to support Member States that are likely to be affected by the dangerous hurricane.

The regional disaster emergency systems have also been activated in preparation of the hurricane.
