By Rennie Parris

Welcome to Talking Dollars & Making Sense, your new weekly column that will take you on an enlightening journey through the world of business and entrepreneurship right here in Guyana. My name is Rennie Parris, and I am thrilled to be your guide as we explore the exciting, and sometimes challenging, path to building successful businesses. Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur, someone who’s toying with the idea of starting a business or a business professional, this column is designed to educate, motivate, and inspire you to take action and make your dreams a reality.

About Me

To give you a bit of my background, I grew up in Buxton and in Festival City. I completed my early education at Sacred Heart Primary and Queen’s College. Life took me across the waters to the United States, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and a Master’s degree in Real Estate from Baruch College. During this time, I was fortunate to obtain my Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, the world’s highest designation in the finance industry.  I didn’t stop there; I went on to achieve a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

With over 18 years in the business sector, I’ve had the opportunity to work with startups and established companies, guiding them through various stages of growth. My career highlights include crafting strategies for managing multi-billion-dollar investments at APG Asset Management, evaluating the financial health of companies at S&P Global, and handling significant investments at JP Morgan. I am a proud Mandela Washington Reciprocal Exchange Fellow, working with Mandela Washington Alumni to establish business ventures in African countries. Now, I’m excited to share my expertise with you, right here at home, and help you navigate the unique landscape of Guyanese business.
