The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has ordered that major excavation works be carried out on a number of canals and trenches across the city as an immediate response to the flooding situation.
Most of Georgetown found itself under flood waters on Sunday morning following a night of heavy downpours.
Initial investigations revealed that the drainage systems in the city are in need of urgent repair and rehabilitation. Some systems have not been repaired in several years.
Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson, has indicated that he intends to propose to cabinet, the setting up of a multi party task force to address drainage in the city. He said residents across the city should experience some relief from Monday morning as the low tide would assist with the drainage works.
