Opposition parties to meet mid-January on possible Coalition for 2025 Elections

The Leaders of the Opposition political parties are planning to meet to discuss potential collaboration ahead of the 2025 General and Regional Elections.

While confirming plans for the meeting, Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Aubrey Norton told reporters on Friday that specific details of the meeting are still to be completed, but the parties are likely to hammer out the process by the middle of this month.

“All the parties will get together and decide what they do, it is not for me to say that we will do it alone or we will do it together that is a decision for all of the political parties involved,” the Opposition Leader has said.

Two years ago, the Alliance For Change formally withdrew from the multi-party coalition with the APNU.

The party said it is not opposed to rejoining the coalition, but a new pact must be put in place before any such coalition arrangement is finalized.

Mr. Norton said his party is also willing to rejoin the coalition with the AFC, as the party believes that a united front can see it regaining the seat of government.

“I cannot say what mechanism we will use at the end of the meeting, the process will determine what happens and out of that process we will determine how we will report to the people of Guyana,” Mr. Norton told reporters.

The Working People’s Alliance has also recently stressed the importance of opposition unity as the Guyana Elections Commission prepares for elections.

Mr. Norton said his party will continue to engage with all opposition political parties including the Alliance For Change, and other parties in and out of the APNU alliance.
