PM Candidate Juretha Fernandes promises corruption free, people centered APNU-led Government

As the opposition, A Partnership for National Unity, (APNU) kicked off its campaign to take the seat of Government on Sunday, the coalition’s Prime Ministerial candidate, Juretha Fernandes, has promised that an APNU led Government would be one that would be people centered and corruption free.

Addressing party supporters at the campaign launch at the Square of the Revolution, Fernandes said the system under the current administration supports corruption, and that will be weeded out.

She said an APNU government will work to ensure a corrupt free public service.

On the issue of government contracts, the PM Candidate described the current situation as a cesspool for corruption. She said a fair system will be introduced for everyone to benefit.

“We acknowledge the contractors out there who had to buy a contract here and there, we are telling you that we will make all your lives better and we will make sure that never again you have to do, we will make sure that when you get a small contract, it’s a contract that you will benefit from and you don’t have to pay for it,” Fernandes told those gathered.

According to the APNU Prime Ministerial candidate, corruption has been robbing the country of billions of dollars that could have gone into the social services sector. And she said although government has been boasting about the increasing contractors across the country, many of them cannot get work to be done unless they pay a bribe.

“We will ensure that all of the work you do, is done efficiently because there will be such transparency and your small business will grow because you will have enough money to invest in it,” she stated.

Fernandes also promised to double small business and other grants and ensure that every category of citizen benefit from the country’s wealth.

“Onward upward to victory the APNU coalition will go, onward to a better life for your children, to a better life for our senior citizens, to a fair system for our contractors and onward to development on our indigenous brothers and sisters,” Fernandes told the party faithful.
