A speedboat passenger is facing serious charges after he was busted by the Police at the Bartica stelling on Wednesday with a quantity of cocaine in his possession.
According to a Police statement, Police ranks from Bartica intercepted the boat as it was arriving from Parika. The Police said a male passenger was approached after he was seen acting in a suspicious manner.
The Police said the man did not object to his bags being searched, and the search of his bags uncovered a plastic bag with 28 small packets of cocaine. The cocaine weighed 875 grams in total, the Police statement said.
The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the Bartica Police station.
During questioning by the Police, the man allegedly claimed that he was transporting the illegal drug on behalf of a friend, who lives in Bartica. The friend was sought out and arrested by the Police after his name was provided.
Both men are now in custody and charges are likely to be filed against them by tomorrow.
