Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo today said a thorough investigation must still be carried out to determine how 11-year-old Adriana Younge drowned last week at the Double Day Hotel.
An autopsy conducted on Monday found that Younge died from drowning, but Mr. Jagdeo believes there must be a thorough investigation to determine whether there was any foul play.
“The family still deserves to find out the truth of what happen to Adriana Younge, we need to thorough investigate the circumstances under which she drowned, whether there was fowl play or not and the President has announced that there shall be a thorough investigation into this matter,” Mr. Jagdeo noted.
Mr. Jagdeo noted that even he himself from the onset thought that Adrianna was murdered given the circumstances and initial information which were inconsistent.
He said now that the cause of death has been established, the way it happened is still to be determined.
“I believe more than anything else that the family needs this truth, I have seen a lot of people are expressing grief and sorrow about the passing of this child and I believe they do so genuinely and then I have seen others who I believe don’t care anything about this child but who are using the opportunity to pursue a political motive,” the Vice President stated.
The Vice President said the family must and will know the truth. He said the inconsistent information which was first provided by the police will also be subject of investigation.
“We still have to investigate that and I suspect that in the thorough investigation promised by the President all of those matters including police actions will be reviewed and investigated,” the Vice President noted.
The Vice President also condemned persons who he said have been instigating violence. He said the Police must protect citizens.
